Kulgam: Two forest department employees sustained injuries as a forest fire erupted in multiple areas in South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Wednesday, with officials citing a dry spell as the reason.

An official said that the ongoing dry spell and drought-like conditions have led to forest fires in Khull, Chimmer, Banimulla, and other areas.

He identified the two employees as Farooq Ahmad Khan and Ashiq Hussain Zargar.

“Both have been shifted to the hospital for treatment and are said to be out of danger,” he said.

The District Disaster Management Volunteers Kulgam, along with employees of Special Forest Division Kulgam, SDRF Kulgam, and local volunteers have extinguished 70 per cent of the fire, he added.
