CBI Officer Investigating SI, JE Recruitment Scams Killed In Road Accident

Jammu: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer who was probing multiple scams in Jammu and Kashmir including JKPSI and JE recruitment scams, was killed in a road accident on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday when his ‘motorcycle lost balance’ in Jammu city outside a private school.

He has been identified as Prashant Sharma, 52 a deputy superintendent of police and a resident of Mandlik Nagar in Jammu’s Paloura area.

The People’s Democratic Party has demanded a probe into the incident stating that the Late Dy SP [deputy superintendent] was investigating very crucial cases.

“There should be no room for doubts about circumstances. We express our deepest sympathies with the family of the deceased officer,” senior PDP leader and former minister, Naeem Akhtar said.

According to reports, he was also investigating a case registered against an IAS officer Navin Choudhary who was booked by the CBI for alleged irregularities in the award of a Rs 4,287 crore contract for the construction of the Kiru hydropower project, which is coming up in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir’s Chenab valley.

Sharma was additionally a member of a CBI unit that probed the alleged misuse of loans amounting to Rs 73 crore acquired from Bank of India’s Satwari branch in Jammu by Jhelum Industries Private Limited and Jhelum Infrastructure Projects Private Limited, both based in Jammu and Kashmir.
