Udhampur: The Village Defense Guard who was injured in a suspected militant attack on Sunday morning in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir has succumbed to his injuries.
He has been identified as Mohammad Shareef (48), son of Abdul Rehman, and a resident of Lower Ponar, Basantgarh area in Udhampur.
According to officials, he was critically injured after a brief gunfight this morning and succumbed in a hospital.
The area has been cordoned off, the officials said.
The terrain is difficult as it's at a high altitude, so the operation against militants will take a longer time, the official added.
