Chilly Night Grips Srinagar Amid Hazy Mist

Srinagar: As a hazy mist descended upon the Himalayan region of Kashmir, Kashmir’s capital Srinagar, recorded the season's coldest temperature at minus 0.8 °C on the night between Sunday and Monday. 

Meteorological department reports indicate a significant drop in temperature, with Srinagar witnessing a nearly 2°C fall, settling at minus 0.8°C compared to the previous night's 0.9°C. This marks a deviation of 1.0°C below the normal for this time of the year in the capital city.

The city woke up to a thick blanket of fog, severely reducing visibility and causing inconvenience to morning commuters.

South Kashmir's Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley, recorded a minimum temperature of 0.4°C, trailing 1.0°C below the seasonal average. Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, experienced a low of minus 2.6°C, dipping below the normal by almost 1°C, while Kokernag maintained a minimum of 1.2°C, aligning with the seasonal average.

In north Kashmir, Gulmarg, the internationally acclaimed skiing resort, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.2°C. Kupwara logged a low of minus 0.8°C, deviating 1.0°C below the expected normal.

Jammu, on the other hand, recorded a relatively milder minimum temperature of 12.6°C, in line with the usual conditions for this time of the year.

Unfortunately, reports from Zanskar and Pakistan-controlled areas were not available at the time of this report.

The meteorological department predicts generally dry weather until November 26, with occasional cloudiness on November 25. No significant weather activities are anticipated until the mentioned date, with the expectation of shallow fog and mist during morning and evening hours.
