Village-Head Arrested By ACB Over Bribery In Baramulla

Baramulla: A village head has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 in exchange for two NOCs (No Objection Certificate) for building permissions in north Kashmir’s Baramulla on Tuesday.

According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), a village head allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4,000 from a complainant for providing two building permissions.

“The complainant, who applied for permissions at the Municipal Council Baramulla, was told by the village head that both permissions were with him,” reads the statement.

“The complainant approached the ACB and filed a complaint. The ACB registered a case against the accused village head and a Patwari. During investigations, a trap team caught the village head red-handed while accepting the bribe inside the Tehsil office premises,” it reads further.

The revenue permissions and the bribe money were recovered from him and the accused was taken into custody, it said.

Moreover, searches were conducted at his residence. The involvement of other public servants from the Tehsil office is also under investigation,” it added.
