Srinagar Authorities Plan to Evacuate People Amid 'Flood Risk'

Srinagar: Authorities in Srinagar are making a plan to move people out of areas where there might be floods because of the heavy rains.

In the first phase, people from Kursoo Padshahi Bagh, Mehjoor Nagar, Charlipora, Gund Chandal, Naik Pora, and Kursoo Ghat will go to Sanatnagar Marriage Hall. Residents of Rambagh, Old Barzulla, Gung Bugh, and Bulbul Bagh will be taken to Marriage Hall Goripora.

In the next phase, people from Jawahar Nagar, Lal Mandi, and Ikhrajpora will go to ERA Complex Rambagh. Residents of Gogji Bagh, Solina, Alochi Bagh, and Magarmal Bagh will be moved to MET High School Rawatpora.

Also, people from Maisuma, Gow Kadal, Kukar Bazar, Sheikh Bagh, Abi Guzar, and Samandar Bagh Barbarshah will be taken to IMPA.

The water level in the Jhelum River is rising due to incessant rains. 

According to the Irrigation & Flood Control Department, if the water level crosses the 21-ft mark, a flood alert is declared. Gauge details around 11:00 PM on 29/04/2024 for River Jhelum and its tributaries are as follows:

1) Sangam (21'/25')=18.08ft

2)Pampore (4.5/5.0)=4.13m

3) MunshiBagh (18'/21')16.09ft.

4) Asham (14.0'/16.5)=9.58ft.

5) Wullar (1578.00)=1577.22m

TRIBUTARIES

1) Vishow Nallah at Khudwani (7.75/8.50)=8.00m

2) Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi (5.4/5.7)=1.93m

3) Lidder Nallah at Batkoot (1.5/1.65)=0.54m

4) Doodhganga Nallah at Barzulla (3.65/3.8)=2.49m

 

5) Sindh Nallah at Doderhama (3.65/3.9)=2.22m
