Awantipora, Jan 9 — J&K Police on Thursday seized two L&T machines, one JCB and two tippers allegedly involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals in south Kashmir’s Khrew and Awantipora areas.
“In Khrew, a police party from Police Station Khrew, led by the SHO, seized the vehicles involved in illegal excavation activities,” police said in a statement to The Himalayan Post.
“Similarly, in Awantipora, a police party from Police Station Awantipora, under the supervision of the SHO, seized vehicles used for illegal mining and transportation of minerals.”
Police said cases have been registered at both police stations under relevant sections of law and further investigation is underway.
Reaffirming its stand against illegal mining, the police said it is “committed to protecting natural resources and taking strict legal action against those involved in such activities.”
The public has been urged to cooperate by reporting unlawful mining. “The identity of informants will be kept confidential, and stringent action will be taken against violators,” the statement said.
