Varmul, Jan 9 — The Baramulla–Uri National Highway will remain closed on Sunday in view of hill-cutting work and the risk of landslides, the district administration said on Friday.
An order issued by the District Magistrate said traffic will be suspended at Danakha Mode and NS Bridge, Uri, from 7 am to 5 pm on Sunday (January 11) to prevent any loss of life or property.
“The restrictions are necessary in view of the apprehension of landslides during the hill-cutting work,” the order said.
The highway has witnessed multiple landslides in recent days, forcing authorities to halt traffic several times and divert vehicles through the Khadniyar–Gantamulla road, which has added to commuters’ difficulties.
Officials said the temporary closure is aimed at ensuring safety while the cutting work is carried out along the vulnerable stretch.
