Tral, Jan 9 — The Wildlife Protection Department on Friday rescued a black bear that had wandered into the Rathsona area of Tral in Pulwama district, triggering panic among residents.

“We received information about a black bear moving close to residential houses in Rathsona. A team was rushed immediately to the spot,” a Wildlife Department official said.

The team launched a rescue operation to prevent any harm to people or the animal. After several hours, the bear was tranquilised and safely captured.

“The bear was later shifted to a safer location in line with standard wildlife protocols. The entire operation was conducted smoothly and no one was injured,” the official added.

Local residents welcomed the swift response by the department, saying it helped avoid a possible human–wildlife conflict in the area.

The department has advised people living near forest fringes to stay alert and report any movement of wild animals near habitation without delay.
