Police act against unregistered homestays in Budgam

Budgam, Jan 8 — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday initiated action against six unregistered homestays and guest houses during a verification drive in the Humhama area of Budgam district, officials said.

The drive was carried out by J&K Police in collaboration with the Tourist Police Station Srinagar to check compliance with registration norms.

“Homestays and guest houses operating without valid registration were identified during the inspection,” a police official said.

The properties found operating without mandatory registration included Cozy Heaven at Sheikhpora near the Armed Complex; Haji Guest House near the airport in Humhama; Sukoonat Gah at ARCO Residency, Humhama; Welcome Homestay near the airport; Zabeel Villa at ARCO Residency; and Homestay by Ishaan, also located at ARCO Residency.

Preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 was initiated against the owners of all six establishments, officials said. In addition, fines were imposed on Haji Guest House and Welcome Homestay for operating without registration.

Police urged owners of homestays and guest houses to obtain the required approvals from competent authorities. “Such verification drives will continue to ensure compliance with the law and safe tourism practices in the district,” the official said.
