Iran’s military attack on Israel was Iran’s right as it was Israel who initially launched air strike that flattened the Iranian consulate in Damascus killing 16 people including seven commanders, the Palestinian resistance group Hamas said on Sunday.

In a statement, the group said: “We consider the military operation carried out by Iran against the occupying Zionist entity (Israel) a natural right and a deserved response to the crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus and assassinating a number of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leaders there.”

“It was a natural right of countries and peoples of the region to defend themselves against Zionist attacks,” reads the statement.

The movement called on the Arab and Islamic nations, and the resistance forces in the region to continue their support for the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood Operation.’

It is pertinent to mention that Iran launched a retaliation attack against Israel with more than 300 drones and missiles from Iran, Iraq and Yemen, however, majority of them were intercepted.

Iran’s attack comes after Israel launched an air strike on Iran’s Syria consulate in Damascus, killing 16 people including seven IRGC generals.

While Iran's top military official stated that if Israel retaliates, Iran is prepared to respond with a larger attack than the one overnight, Israel's foreign minister said, “We have maintained that in the event of an Iranian attack on Israel, we will respond in kind, and this policy remains in full force."
