Sopore: Two unidentified militants were killed and two military troopers injured in an overnight military operation in north Kashmir's Sopore with schools and colleges in the area being closed on Friday, according to officials.

A top police official said that the identities of the two slain militants are yet to be determined, as their bodies remain on the ground awaiting retrieval during the ongoing operation.

The operation started on Thursday late evening at Check Mohalla area of Nowpora in Sopore by a Joint team of Indian Army's 22 RR, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

A civilian identified as Farooq Ah Dar was injured during yesterday's exchange of fire between militants and government forces. However, authorities stated that he was immediately hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition.

Furthermore, the Additional Magistrate of Sopore directed the suspension of classwork in all government and private educational institutions, including colleges, within Sopore tehsil as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the military operation is still underway and all the roads leading to the site has been sealed off by forces.
