Wejbuar, Apr 14 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said his government will not allow “jungle raj” in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that no one will be permitted to disturb peace in the region following a Ramban incident involving a youth allegedly chased by unidentified cow vigilantes.
The remarks came after reports that a local, Tanveer Chopan, jumped into a river stream while being chased by a group of men when he was transporting a milch cow and other cattle from Jammu. His whereabouts remain unknown, officials said.
“There are people who do not like peace and instead want communal unrest and conflicts,” Omar told reporters in Bijbhera. “As long as my government remains in power, we will never allow such things to happen in Jammu and Kashmir.”
He urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure strict action against those involved in the incident and any attempts to disturb public order.
“This should send a strong message that such disorder and lawlessness will not be tolerated by the present government,” he said.
Locals in Ramban staged protests for hours following the incident, disrupting traffic along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.
Officials said the situation is being monitored, while further details regarding the youth are awaited.
