Srinagar, Jan 26 — An active Western Disturbance is set to affect Jammu and Kashmir from Monday evening through Tuesday, bringing widespread rain and snowfall, with moderate to heavy snow expected across higher reaches, weather observers said.
“Heavy snowfall is likely over the upper areas of the Pir Panjal Range, especially in Shopian, Kulgam and adjoining regions, with peak activity late tonight into tomorrow,” Kashmir Weather Watch said in an advisory.
Popular tourist destinations including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Pahalgam, Doodhpathri, Peer Ki Gali and Gurez are expected to witness significant snowfall during the period.
In the Kashmir plains, light to moderate snowfall is forecast mainly from late night and continuing into Tuesday, while parts of Jammu may experience brief gusty winds.
Weather officials warned that adverse conditions could disrupt road and air travel. “There is a risk of landslides and shooting stones along the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway, and slippery roads may affect movement,” the advisory said, adding that flight operations could also face delays.
