Srinagar: The Director of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), Tassaduq Hussain Mir has admitted that the government schools lack inbuilt heating facilities but ‘affirmed that coal chimneys are provided to those schools making requests.’

Mir made these remarks at the Annual Day function organised by Government Boys Higher Secondary School Zainakote on the outskirts of Srinagar city.

“We don’t have inbuilt heating systems, but we have installed coal chimneys wherever needed. All requests for heating facilities have been addressed,” he said.

On the subject of winter breaks in hilly and snowbound areas, DSEK explained, “There are no special provisions for announcing winter vacations in these areas, but we monitor weather conditions to make decisions accordingly.”

Addressing concerns about untrained ReT teachers, Mir stated, “The majority of our ReTs are trained, and others are enhancing their qualifications. Currently, the National Awardee from Jammu and Kashmir in the education department is a ReT teacher.”

“We are highlighting a positive shift,” he mentioned, “After 30 years, we had 220 academic days in the previous year, empowering us to conduct events in line with the National Education Policy (NEP).”
