Srinagar, Feb 21 — The National Medical Commission has approved new and additional postgraduate super-specialty (DM/MCh) seats for government medical institutions in Jammu and Kashmir for the academic year 2025–26, according to an official notification.
In a notice issued by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC on February 20, the regulator said the sanctioned seats have been notified for counselling purposes, even as individual Letters of Permission (LoPs) for newly approved and enhanced seats are being issued.
“The notified list shall be treated as deemed Letters of Permission for counselling by the authorities concerned,” the notice, signed by MARB President Dr M K Ramesh, said.
As per the approved list, Government Medical College Jammu has, for the first time, been granted four DM Cardiology seats, matching the number sought. In M.Ch Urology, four seats were approved against six requested.
At Government Medical College Srinagar, two seats each have been sanctioned in DM Pulmonary Medicine and DM Cardiology, against four seats requested in each discipline. The college has also received approval for two seats each in M.Ch Paediatric Surgery and DM Medical Gastroenterology, along with two seats in M.Ch Urology.
The Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, has been granted two seats each in DM Neuro Anaesthesia, DM Paediatric and Neonatal Anaesthesia, and DM Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.
The NMC has asked institutions to report any inadvertent discrepancies in the notified list to the Board within seven working days. In a separate communication, NMC Secretary Dr Raghav Langer has advised Deans and Principals of medical colleges to take note of the approved seats for necessary action.
The additional super-specialty seats are expected to augment advanced medical education and strengthen specialised healthcare services across Jammu and Kashmir.
