Srinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, on Thursday for a two-day visit to mark International Yoga Day with media reports indicating that he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for 84 developmental projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore.

Security measures in Srinagar have been intensified in anticipation of his high-profile visit, with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi announcing a rigid arrangement.

As per the security protocols, the high-alert security arrangement has been made including increased vehicle checks and heightened vigilance across the city, IGP told reporters.

On the first day, the Prime Minister will attend the "Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K" event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), scheduled for 6 PM where he will interact with young achievers from J&K, distribute appointment letters to over 2,000 newly recruited government employees, and inaugurate various developmental projects including road infrastructure, water supply schemes, and higher education institutions.

A highlight of the visit will be the launch of the Rs 1,800 crore JKCIP Project, which aims to enhance agricultural productivity across 90 blocks in 20 districts, benefiting 1.5 million people.

On June 21st, Prime Minister Modi will lead the 10th International Day of Yoga celebrations at SKICC, starting at 6:30 AM. The event is expected to attract over 7,000 participants from diverse backgrounds, as stated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

Since its inception in 2015, the International Day of Yoga has seen Modi lead sessions at iconic locations including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
