Srinagar, May 8 — Brief spells of light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers and gusty winds are expected at several locations across Jammu and Kashmir over the next two days, the Meteorological Department said on Thursday.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the MeT department, stated that weather will remain partly to generally cloudy, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall likely on May 9 and 10.
“We expect light to moderate showers and gusty winds in several areas,” he said.
Light rainfall was recorded in parts of Kashmir on Thursday, including in Srinagar, leading to a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures.
The MeT has issued a yellow alert for May 9 and 10, cautioning residents about the expected weather conditions.
It further advised avoiding boating and shikara rides in Dal Lake, Wular Lake, and other water bodies during inclement weather.
The advisory also warned that intense showers at vulnerable locations could trigger landslides or mudslides.
Looking ahead, the MeT predicts a brief spell of rain at isolated locations on May 12, followed by generally dry weather from May 13 to 17.
A significant rise in daytime temperatures, particularly in the Jammu region, is also expected from May 13 onward.
Citizens have been urged to follow administrative and traffic advisories during the forecast period.
