Srinagar: Several higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley received fresh snowfall on Friday, while rains across the plains brought a notable drop in temperatures. This weather pattern is expected to continue until Saturday.

According to reports, areas such as Gulmarg's Affarwat, Sadhna Top and Razdan Pass in north Kashmir, Zojila in central Kashmir, and Sinthan Top in south Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall.

Reports indicate that a few inches of snow were recorded in various places today, while intermittent rainfall persisted for the third consecutive day in the plains of Kashmir.

The temperatures have dropped further, with Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, recording a maximum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius. Qazigund, the gateway to the Kashmir Valley, saw a high of 23.8 degrees Celsius. In Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination, the temperature settled at 20.4 degrees Celsius. In Kupwara, the mercury dropped to 20.9 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag and Gulmarg recorded highs of 22.7 degrees Celsius and 11.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The monsoon season in Kashmir began on June 1, leading to intermittent rainfall across the Valley over the past few days.

Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), stated that the weather is expected to remain partly to mostly cloudy tomorrow, with a chance of light rain and thunderstorms in scattered areas during the afternoon.

He noted that weather conditions are likely to improve from June 9, with generally dry weather expected until June 17, although light rain and thunderstorms in isolated areas cannot be ruled out.

The MeT advised farmers to resume their operations, such as spraying and fertilizing, from June 9 onward. A spell of hot and dry weather is anticipated starting June 10.
