The Israeli military exhibited artefacts taken from Gaza in the Israeli parliament, known as the Knesset.

Eli Askozido, Director of the Israel Antiquities Authority, took to his official Instagram account to share images of the displayed artefacts. According to Askozido, the ‘IDF’ sought the authority's assistance in securing a warehouse in Gaza.

Askozido's Instagram post included a glimpse of the exhibit at the Knesset, with a caption stating, “A small showcase was placed in the Knesset.” Additionally, a video showcased Israeli troops raiding a warehouse filled with antiquities. Askozido celebrated the event in his caption, expressing gratitude to ‘warrior’ Moshe Agami.

Interestingly, the post featuring the Knesset display has since vanished from Askozido's profile. He followed up with a statement clarifying the situation: “The IDF called upon the Israel Antiquities to inspect a warehouse in Gaza housing ancient items or those appearing to be ancient. An initial examination was conducted by an archaeologist, and a written report will be submitted to the IDF later. The items were left undisturbed at the site.”

Gaza, currently under Israeli bombardment, boasts a rich history in antiquities. Serving as an important trading post for numerous civilizations, from ancient Egyptians to the Philistines mentioned in the Bible, through to the Roman Empire and the Crusades.

According to an Al Jazeera report, over 200 historically important sites have been erased by Israel amid the ongoing war.
