Kupwara: A forest guard was suspended on Tuesday for wearing a Pheran (traditional Kashmiri dress) during duty hours in the Langate-Handwara area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
According to officials, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Langate, during an inspection, found the guard, identified as Bashir Ahmad Dobhi, wearing a pheran and suspended him for violating the dress code during duty hours.
Moreover, the suspended employee has been attached to Range Office Rafiaabad, in north Kashmir’s Baramulla till further orders, an official said.
“The forest employees are a part of disciplined force and are bond to follow proper dress code while performing their duties, he added.
Kashmiris wear pheran in winters for warmth and insulation against the freezing cold. The loose-fitting traditional garment is designed to accommodate layers of clothing for enhanced insulation.
