Kokernag: A 65-year-old man was mauled to death by a bear in Fattan- Ahalan forest area of Kokarnag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, officials said.

Earlier, The Himalayan Post reported that the dense Forest Deforestation has led to the increase in the Man-Animal conflict in Kashmir. The exclusive satellite data shows that the dense forest decline is the result of weather extremes, habitat fragmentation, increased man-animal conflict and enhanced soil erosion in the region.

Meanwhile, the deceased has been identified as Mohammad Akbar Chohan (65) son of Mohammad Hussain Chohan, resident of Ahalan Gadool.

He was coming home during the night of 26-27 June, when he was attacked by the bear, officials said.

He said that the man died on the post and his body was brought back today morning.
