Vehicle Seized Under UAPA in Budgam

Budgam, April 19 — J&K Police have seized a vehicle under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

In a statement, police said the seized vehicle—an Innova bearing registration number JK01AT-7604, engine number EG4HJ17B4979, and chassis number MD626EG40J1H49448—was “linked to a terror module” and was in the possession of Mudasir Ahmad Rather, a resident of Kantbagh Kralpora, Budgam.

The seizure was carried out under Section 25 of the UAPA in FIR No. 151/2024, registered at Police Station Chadoora.

The statement further noted that this action reflects Budgam Police’s zero-tolerance policy toward militancy and its support networks.

J&K Police have seized hundreds of properties, including land and houses, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) after the abrogation of Article 370, when the region came directly under New Delhi’s control. The move is seen as part of a broader strategy to combat militancy in the region.

These properties belong to individuals currently lodged in jail or those who have crossed over to the other side of Kashmir in Pakistan.

According to police, once a property is seized under UAPA, it no longer remains the individual’s asset and is directly transferred to state ownership.
