Srinagar, Jan 12 — Families across Kashmir have been anxious after days of silence from students studying in Iran, following civil unrest and internet shutdowns. A brief audio message from a Kashmiri student has reassured families that she is safe.
“Don’t worry, I am fine. I spoke to brother ji and others as well,” she said, in a message sent via a friend traveling through Afghanistan.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to ensure the safety of Indian students in Iran, numbering around 2,000 across multiple provinces. The JKSA has requested round-the-clock communication lines and an emergency evacuation plan if the situation worsens.
Meanwhile, the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) and FAIMA Doctors Association confirmed that all Indian students in Iran are safe. Exams and classes have been suspended till January 24.
