Rajouri: The Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway has been temporarily closed to all traffic following the washout of a temporary culvert due to relentless heavy rainfall that has been pounding the region since last night.
According to officials, in the wake of the ongoing construction of a bridge at Rajal Top in Nowshera, the main highway had already been closed for nearly a month. To facilitate the movement of vehicles during this period, a temporary culvert was hastily erected.
An official said that the traffic has been diverted to other link roads.
"Due to heavy rainfall since last night due this temporary culvert got washed away, resulting in closure of the highway at Rajal Top," he said.
Meanwhile, locals of the area also held a protest, demanding earliest restoration of highway.
Officials said that efforts to restore the highway are going on but it is expected to take a several hours.
