Doda: Multiple residential houses and a mosque have developed cracks in Gatsu Doda village of Chenab Valley’s Kishtwar district, locals from the area said on Friday.

Locals have cited the widening of roads led by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) as causing major damage to their infrastructure. However, experts believe that multiple hydropower projects in Chenab are ticking time bombs, causing land subsidence.

Affected residents are also complaining about the lack of assistance and safety concerns from the local authorities, saying that the vulnerability and temporary sheltering will lead to wildlife threats.

Meanwhile, District Magistrate Doda, Harvinder Singh, while speaking to media persons assured full support to the affected families. He had also promised compensation from NHIDCL in the upcoming days.

Additionally, it is important to mention that six residential houses from the Doda district also reported cracks last year in December 2023.
