Srinagar: As ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) arrested a Tehsildar from Panthachowk area of Srinagar over bribe of rupees ₹1.61 Lakh for issuance or revenue records, the Special Srinagar Court granted six days custody against the accused.
Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Bureau received a written complaint, alleging therein that Majid Choudhary, Tehsildar Panthachowk, Srinagar and his office clerk Peer Waseem Ahmad are demanding ₹ 1.61 Lakh as bribe for issuing the revenue records in favour of the complainant.
During the course of investigation a trap team constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught red-handed Majid Choudhary, Tehsildar, Panthachowk, Srinagar and his office Clerk Peer Waseem Ahmad while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of ₹1.20 Lakh from the complainant as first instalment of ₹1.61 Lakh.
They were arrested on the spot by the ACB team.
The accused Tehsildar who was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe on Tuesday, along with his another aide was produced before the Special Judge Anti-Corruption Kashmir, Srinagar on Wednesday afternoon.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and the accused persons while demanding and accepting the bribe money were arrested at government quarters Tulsibagh and bribe money was recovered from the dashboard of their Bolero vehicle (Official),” the Court observed.
Earlier, Special Public Prosecutor Wajahat submitted before court that the investigation of the case is in its initial stage and the custody of the accused to police custody for custodial interrogation is required.
He further submitted that sufficient material has been collected by the Investigating Officer during investigation regarding the involvement of accused in corruption.
After hearing prosecution and accused Tehsildar, the Court said that remand application is accepted and accused Tehsildar Majid Choudhary who are reported physically and mentally fit for custody by the doctors of police hospital, are remanded to police custody for a period of six days.
The Court also directed the Investigating Officer to get COVID19 test of the accused done strictly as per COVID 19 SOP and to produce the accused before the court again after the expiry of remand granted.
