CM Assures Support to Family of Brothers Who Drowned in Jhelum

Bijbehara, Apr 15 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday visited the family of two brothers who drowned in the Jhelum River in Anantnag district, assuring them of full government support, officials said.

The victims, identified as Majid Bashir (30) and Shahid Bashir (28), died on Monday in the Padshahibagh area of Bijbehara while bathing their sheep in the river.

According to officials, one of the brothers slipped into the water, and the other drowned while attempting to rescue him. Preliminary investigations point to an accidental drowning.

During his visit, Abdullah offered condolences to the bereaved family. “He expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured the bereaved family of full support and assistance from the government,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X.
