Kulgam: Flash floods caused by a cloudburst in the upper reaches of Damhal Hanjipora area in South Kashmir's Kulgam district triggered panic among villagers on Saturday evening.
While there have been no casualties reported so far, the sudden downflow of water has caused extensive damage to residential houses, apple orchards, and school boundary walls in Khurbatpora.
The affected areas include Tangmarg, Korel, Chogalpora, Kurbatpora, Chachmulla, and Jaibal in Damhal Hanjipora.
Meanwhile, an official said that under the supervision of the SDPO of Damhal Hanjipora, affected families were swiftly evacuated to safer locations.
“The Deputy Commissioner of the district remained in constant contact with the ground staff to ensure appropriate action,” he said.
As of now, there have been no reports of fatalities or injuries resulting from the flash floods in the area, he added.
