Rajouri: Around 67 persons have been detained over the Rajouri militant attack which killed a government employee, Mohd Razaq in Kunda village of Shadra Sharief area in Pir Panchal region’s Rajouri district on Monday, according to police.

An official said that approximately, 67 persons were detained for questioning.

Earlier, the J&K Police announced a reward of Rs. 10 lakh for any information leading to the identification or whereabouts of an unidentified militant known as Abu Hamza, who is active in the areas of Shadra Sharief and DKG.

Locals of the area informed that Mohd Razaq, a government employee in the Social Welfare Department, was likely attacked because his brother, Tahir Khursheed, works in the Territorial Army.

“Militants were probably after Razaq’s brother,” locals said. However, no such confirmation was given by the police and administration.

His father, Muhammad Akber, was also a victim of militancy, as his throat was slit by militants in 2023, locals said. Razaq was appointed in the Social Welfare Department on compassionate grounds after his father’s killing and was working as a junior assistant in the department.
