Beerwah: A youth identified as Waseem Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Central Kashmir’s Beerwah, was prevented from joining the militant outfit Ansar Gazwat-Ul-Hind by J&K’s Police’s Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), as stated by the CIK.

In a statement, the CIK said: 'An input was received from reliable sources indicating that the Ansar Gazwat-Ul-Hind group is attempting to re-establish its base and revive its cadres in Kashmir. Accordingly, utilizing technical intelligence, one individual was identified and detained for questioning.

“During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that he was in constant communication with the handlers through virtual means and was on the brink of joining the outfit,” the statement said.

“It was further discovered that AuGH has indoctrinated and recruited a few committed OGWs in Kashmir, and these OGWs, in collusion, are planning new recruitments in the Valley,' the statement continued.

“He was also tasked with identifying a group of youths willing to join the ranks of AuGH.”

Further investigation is underway to identify other members of such groups in order to take legal action against them, it added.

Ansar Ghazwatul Hind was founded by Zakir Musa, who was killed in 2019. He was one of the most popular militants after Burhan Wani.
