Baramulla, June 8 — A woman from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been detained under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA) for her alleged involvement in unlawful and anti-national activities, police said on Sunday.
The detainee, identified as Haseena Begum, wife of Mohammad Yousuf Bhat and a resident of Sheeri, was taken into preventive custody after the execution of a detention warrant issued under the PSA, according to a statement issued by Baramulla Police.
Police said the detention order was issued by the District Magistrate, Baramulla, after reviewing her alleged involvement in multiple criminal cases registered in different districts of Kashmir.
“Cases against her include FIRs registered in Handwara, Bandipora and Sopore between 2019 and 2022 under various sections of law, including provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), IPC, Public Property Damage Prevention Act and Sabotage Act,” a police spokesperson said.
Following the execution of the detention warrant, Begum was shifted to District Jail Bhaderwah, where she has been lodged under preventive detention provisions, the statement said.
Baramulla Police said the action was taken as part of ongoing efforts to maintain public order and security.
“The preventive detention forms part of sustained measures to curb activities considered detrimental to peace and stability in the region,” the spokesperson said.
