Udhampur, Feb 4 — Security forces killed two militants during an encounter in the Jophar Forest area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district after an operation was launched on specific intelligence inputs, the Indian Army said on Wednesday.
The gunfight began on Tuesday when troops of the White Knight Corps and CIF Delta, along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, cordoned off the area to prevent any escape.
Confirming the development, the Army’s White Knight Corps said contact was established with the militants soon after the operation began. “Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists have been successfully neutralised,” the Corps said in a post on X.
The Army did not disclose the identities of the killed militants or any group affiliation, in line with the practice followed in recent years.
The operation has concluded, the Army said, while the area continues to remain under surveillance..
