Baramulla: Two Over Groundworkers (OGWs) have been arrested at a checkpoint in North Kashmir's Baramulla district on Sunday, J&K Police said on Monday.
In a statement, Police said: “Acting on intelligence inputs, a checkpoint was established by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kreeri and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Indian Military on September 3, 2023, near the Shirkwara Bus Stop.”
According to the statement, during routine checking, the personnel noticed the suspicious movement of two individuals approaching from the Wagoora Bridge side on foot. Upon realizing the presence of law enforcement and security forces, the suspects attempted to escape but were tactfully apprehended by the authorities.
The two individuals were identified as Tawseef Ramazan Bhat, the son of Mohammad Ramzan Bhat, and Moien Amin Bhat, also known as Momin, the son of Mohammad Amin Bhat. Both hailed from Bada Mulla in Sheeri, Baramulla.
“During the search, a Chinese pistol with a magazine containing 15 rounds was discovered in Moien Amin Bhat's possession, while Tawseef Ramazan Bhat was found to be carrying a hand grenade.They work for Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) armed group,” reads the statement.
“The suspects confessed during preliminary questioning that they maintained regular contact with LeT handlers and were involved in passing sensitive information across the Line of Control (LOC). It was revealed that they were on the brink of becoming active terrorists, intending to carry out attacks on security forces and targeted killings,” it reads further.
In response to this development, the police have registered a case under FIR number 111/2023, invoking various sections of the law, including the Indian Arms Act, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. An extensive investigation has been initiated into the matter.
