Doda, Jan 22 — Ten Indian Army personnel were killed and eleven others injured after a military vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Chenab valley’s Doda district on Thursday morning, officials said.
The accident occurred at Khannitop on the Bhaderwah–Chamba road when an Army Casper vehicle was moving for an operational task, according to official sources.
“The vehicle veered off the road and fell nearly 400 metres into a ravine,” an official said.
“Ten Army personnel died on the spot.”
The injured were initially shifted to the Sub-District Hospital in Bhaderwah and later airlifted to the Army’s Command Hospital in Udhampur for specialised treatment, officials said.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the incident and said the nation stood with the families of the deceased.
“We will always remember the outstanding service and supreme sacrifice of our brave Army personnel,” Sinha said in a statement.
He said senior officials had been directed to ensure the best possible medical care to the injured and added, “My prayers are with them for a speedy recovery.”
