The Resistance Front which police says is an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Toiba, has threatened Veteran politician Ghulam Nabi Azad ahead of his scheduled rallies in the Valley while accusing him for meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval.

However, Azad replied to the threat by swearing on god that he had never met Ajit Doval in his life.

The threat posters have also been put on social media platforms in which Azad was called 'political chameleon.'

“I heard about the reports that terrorists have issued a threat to kill me. They have said I met Amit Shah and Doval before coming here. I have never met Doval in my life. I swear by god. Yes, I have met Shah as he is the home minister and I was in Parliament. It was part of my work. I meet people from various parties,” he said.

After resigning from the Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad is strengthening the base for his yet-to-be-launched party in J&K. Recently, he said he won’t mislead the people of J&K by promising that Article 370 will be restored, which triggered speculations over his equation with the BJP — which the Congress has been suggesting ever since Azad quit the party and called Rahul Gandhi a non –serious individual. Earlier, Tariq Hamid Karra, a congress leader based in Kashmir also said he wasn’t surprised over Azad’s resignation as he given a tearful- farewell speech by PM Modi and was told he would be placed for a special mission soon.

PDP president also called Azad’s statement unfortunate and said he has taken away the hopes of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, Azad clarified the facts behind his statement and said only Prime Minister Narender Modi, a majority in the Indian Parliament or Supreme Court holds power to restore 370.

My politics is based on truth and I won't make fake promises with people, he had said.

“I don't want to mislead any body and I never said that Article 370 won't come and it can be restored through three way one is if you have good approach with Modi sahib and if you convince him but I am not so close to him so I won't make promise, Second is any party having 2/3 majority in Parliament and third is supreme Court but not body can claim that they can direct supreme Court to restore it and when any party will get 2/3 majority and then take up this issue, nobody can predict and that is the main reason, I am not making promises that I will restore,” he said.

“I don't want to see more dead bodies on roads and I am not among those who will give emotional slogans like "Azadi milegi" but I am telling ‘Azaad nai milegi’,”  he said adding, “you have given chance to those who give slogans of self rule, Autonomy but have they achieved so far,” he added.

At the rally, he appealed to the youngsters to shun the path of violence and blamed Pakistan for the sufferings of the people of J&K. “There are some people across the border who have not been able to set their own country right after the partition, but have taken the pledge of destroying our country and Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

“Picking up guns is not a solution. It only brings destruction in your life, to your family and to the country. Mahatma Gandhi did not pick up a gun or a sword or did not fire a missile to defeat the British. Whichever Muslim country — from Afghanistan to Iraq to Palestine — took to guns, took to militancy, was destroyed,” Azad said.
