Srinagar, Mar 25 — The second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session, beginning March 27 after a Ramadan break, is set to witness political sparring over the proposed National Law University (NLU) and the introduction of the Land Grant Bill, 2025.

The nine-day session will conclude on April 4, with Private Members’ Bills listed for March 30 and April 1, and Private Members’ Resolutions scheduled for March 31 and April 2.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to again raise the issue of establishing an NLU in Jammu, reiterating its opposition to the proposed location in Kashmir. BJP legislators have previously accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of “discriminating against Jammu” over the siting of the university.

Party MLAs recently met under the chairmanship of Rajya Sabha MP and J&K BJP chief Sat Sharma to finalise their strategy for the session, with the NLU issue among the key points of discussion.

Meanwhile, National Conference chief spokesperson and MLA Tanvir Sadiq is set to introduce the Land Grant Bill, 2025, aimed at restoring land rights to economically weaker sections.

“I hope that the government under Omar Abdullah will adopt the Bill so that the poor people are benefitted,” Sadiq said.

He noted that amendments had been made to the relevant Act in 2022, and expressed expectation that the proposed legislation would address concerns of affected sections.

Alongside these issues, multiple Private Members’ Bills on varied subjects are expected to be introduced, indicating a packed legislative agenda for the remaining session days.
