Shopian, May 1 — The body of a four-year-old boy, who had slipped into a stream earlier this week, was recovered on Friday from the Ranbiara nallah in the Hirpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hanzala, a resident of Tiken village in Pulwama. He had accidentally fallen into the fast-flowing stream near Dubjan Bridge on April 27 and was swept away by strong currents.
“The body was retrieved this morning from a downstream location in the Ranbiara stream after a five-day search operation,” an official said.
Search efforts were launched immediately after the incident, involving teams from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). Authorities deployed additional manpower and used specialised equipment to scan deeper sections of the nallah.
Expert civilian body retrievers, including a volunteer from Doda, were also engaged to assist in the operation.
