Notably, unknown gunman fired upon civilians on Thursday when they were heading towards a shrine.

He said police has already registered a case (FIR No. 10/2023) under relevant section of law and further investigations are underway.

This is the second firing incident in the Pir Panjal’s Rajouri and Poonch; recently, two armed men killed seven civilians including two minors. Soon after the attacks, the government in association with the Indian military started  training militia under VGD ‘Village Defense Guards’ which was earlier criticized by the unionists and called the move fatal.
