Uri, May 3 — Vehicular movement on the Uri–Baramulla highway was suspended on Sunday after a major landslide triggered by fresh rainfall blocked the road at Lagama, officials said.
Heavy debris and mudslides completely obstructed the stretch, forcing authorities to close the highway and divert traffic through an alternate route via Bandi–Paranpillan–Dachi towards Uri.
“Men and machinery have been pressed into service, but restoration will take time as it is a major landslide,” an official said.
The administration issued a traffic advisory asking commuters to avoid the affected stretch and use designated diversions until clearance work is completed and normal movement is restored.
Authorities urged the public to cooperate and plan travel accordingly to minimise inconvenience.
Efforts to clear the debris and reopen the highway are underway, officials added.
