Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has decided to permit the 8th Muharram procession through its traditional route tomorrow from 6 am to 8 am, a day after prohibiting the procession by citing law and order situation and “sectarian violence”

However, its traditional timing (2:00 pm--10:00 pm) has been changed to 6:00--8:00 am.

The organisers have been asked to ensure that there are no political speeches, slogans, flags, banners or demonstrations for any outlawed, anti-India or “terror” sentiments.

This marks the first time in nearly three decades that the procession will be allowed to take place along its customary path as the ban was in place since 90s when armed rebellion against India rose to prominence.

Earlier, a crucial meeting was held by LG to discuss the possibility of allowing the 8th Mohurram procession during which a prominent figure, Shia leader Imran Reza Ansari walked out, citing dictation.

As the event unfolds tomorrow morning, the entire region will be closely watching, hoping for a trouble-free commemoration of this religious occasion.
