Kuka Parrey’s Son Resigns From Congress, Likely To Join Azad

Srinagar: Imtiyaz Parrey, son of Ikhwan founder Kuka Parrey, on Friday resigned from basic membership of Congress.

Imtiyaz announced his resignation from the Congress party through a Facebook post, according to news agency- Kashmir News Observer.

“I am resigning from the basic membership of the Congress party due to some personal reasons. I appreciate my colleagues and leadership for reposing faith in me. I also appreciate the support and the love they have given me,” Imtiyaz wrote on his Facebook.

According to sources, Imtiyaz is likely to join the Ghulam Nabi Azad-led Democratic Azad Party.

Imtiyaz’s father Kuka Parrey was founder of Ikhwan, a counter-insurgency militia formed in 1994-95 to fight militancy in Kashmir.

Kuka Parrey also formed the Jammu & Kashmir Awami League before 1996 assembly polls. It won one seat each in 1996 and 2022 state polls.

Imtiyaz fought the 2008 assembly election on the ticket of Awami League but later joined Congress.
