Kokernag: At the Kokernag operation site, Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar said that that top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) Commander, a local militant, Uzair Khan has been killed while another body was sighted near the encounter site.

ADGP Kumar, while addressing reporters, confirmed that Uzair Khan, involved in the killing of an army Colonel, Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) on the first day of the operation, has been eliminated, and his body has been recovered.

“There is an unidentified body lying on the ground at the site yet to be recovered,” he said.

"We had prior intelligence regarding the presence of two to three terrorists in the area, two bodies are recovered while the third may be found soon,” stated the ADGP on the seventh day of the Gadool operation in Kokernag.

Responding to inquiries about the status of the operation, he clarified that the search operation would continue for some time as a lot of area is yet to be searched. However, he urged local residents to refrain from approaching the encounter site, as unexploded grenades or shells could pose a danger to them.

Earlier, DGP Dilbagh Singh had emphasized the challenges posed by the tough terrain and significant risks involved in this operation. “The security forces meticulously executed their plan to track down the terrorists in Gadool.”
