Kashmiri Boy Who Went Missing Under Army Custody Found Dead In Forests

Srinagar: Kunanposhpora boy, Abdul Rashid Dar, who as per the Indian army escaped while on the way to a hideout in December last year was found dead in Zurhama forests on Wednesday and his body has been handed over to the family, J&K Police said.

The deceased was a driver by profession and a resident of Trehgam village in Kupwara’s Kunanposhpora.

Rashid was taken for questioning by the Indian army’s 41 Rashtriya Rifles from his house on December 15.

His mother at the time of his arrest had said the 24-year-old was in the middle of dinner when he was taken by the army.

“We called Sarpanch and then we handed over Rashid to the army officer. I hugged him and then they put him in a vehicle and drove away,” she had said.

The family also held protests in Srinagar asking for their kin’s return (dead or alive) and urged LG’s intervention.

Meanwhile, the Kupwara police said missing Abdul Rashid Dar of the Kunan area of Kupwara was recovered today early morning from Zurhama -PK Galli forests.

The police said that the body was brought to SDH Kupwara where it was identified his relatives.

"After completing all medico-legal formalities including post-mortem by a team of doctors, the dead body was handed over to the family members for burial," it said.

"Cognisance of the matter has been taken for further investigations," the police added.
