Srinagar: The Himalayan region of Kashmir is experiencing an odd weather phenomenon as the minimum night temperatures are recorded above normal on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday, while daytime highs remain surprisingly below average.
As per data shared by the Meteorological Centre, during the night, the city saw a minimum temperature of 0.6°C, which was above-normal by 1.0°C.
In South Kashmir, top tourist destination Pahalgam logged 2.0°C above-normal by 4.0°C. Qazigund, the gateway town to the Kashmir Valley, recorded the minimum temperature of 1.8°C, above-normal by 1.0°C, while Kokernag noted 1.8°C, slightly above normal by-0.2°C.
Pulwama logged -0.6°C Shopian -2.0 °C and Kulgam 1.7°C.
Moving to North Kashmir, the world-famous skiing resort Gulmarg reported a minimum temperature of 1.0°C, above-normal by 2.5°C. Kupwara recorded 1.2°C, above-normal by 1.4°C.
Reports from Gurez, known as the valley's coldest place, were not available. However. Bandipora logged -0.7 °C and Baramulla 2.5°C.
Similarly, updates from Central Kashmir's Ganderbal and Budgam districts were also unavailable.
In the Pir Panchal region, Banihal experienced relatively milder weather, logging 3.8°C. However, details from Poonch and Rajouri districts were not provided.
In the Chenab Valley, Bhaderwah reported 4.0°C, while information from Kishtwar was unavailable.
Heading to the Zanskar region, Leh recorded -4.5°C, while Kargil logged -3.9.
Across the LOC (Line of control) in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, Muzaffarabad noted 9.0°C, and Mirpur experienced a warmer night of 11.7°C. Moreover, Skardu noted -1.8°C, Gilgit 2.2°C, reports from Hunza was available.
