Srinagar, Mar 27 — At least six persons were killed and five others injured after an avalanche struck a passenger vehicle at Zojila Pass on Friday, officials said.
A senior official said the vehicle was hit by a “massive snow slide,” killing seven on-the-spot, while five others sustained injuries.
“Rescue teams rushed to the site immediately after the incident and launched an operation to evacuate the injured and retrieve the bodies from the debris,” the official said.
The injured were shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment, he added.
Authorities said rescue and clearance operations were still underway, with further details awaited.
Zojila Pass connects the Kashmir Valley with the Kargil region and remains prone to avalanches during winter months.
