Shopian: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police carried out a series of raids in the Rawalpora area of South Kashmir's Shopian district in connection with an ongoing investigation into the attacks on non-local labourers and seized three vehicles.
In a statement, Police said that the SIU Shopian's crackdown on terror elements continued as part of their investigation into Case FIR No. 126/2023 under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 IPC, and sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
“The raids were carried out based on the disclosure statement of a suspect named Adnan Shafi, son of Mohd Shafi Shah,” Police said in the statement.
The raids targeted the residential premises of Zahid Ahmad Shah, son of Ab Gaffar Shah, as well as Hanzil Ahmad Shah, son of Mohd Maqbool Shah.
Additionally, a search was conducted at the residence of the primary accused, Adnan Shafi.
“The investigation led the SIU to conduct another raid at the Matting Shop owned by Mohd Yaqoob Shah, son of Mohd Sultan Shah, located in New Colony Gagren. During the search at the Matting Shop, officials recovered a hand grenade from a Hyundai Venue car, bearing Registration Number JK22C-1511,” it said.
“The grenade was found within the vehicle and subsequently seized as evidence,” it said.
The residence of Mohd Yaqoob Shah was also found to contain two other vehicles that were believed to have been used either directly or indirectly in the commission of the crime, it added.
