The Supreme Court of India on Friday agreed to hear a Special Leave Petition on June 27, 2022, preferred by Latif Magrey, father of Amir Magrey, who was killed in the controversial ‘encounter’ in Hyderpora area of Srinagar Last year, reported LiveLaw.

Lateef Margray has been seeking the mortals of his son for a proper Islamic burial in his native graveyard in J&K’s Ramban district.

On 27 May, the High Court of J&K and Ladakh ordered the exhumation of the body of Mohammad Amir Magray.

Subsequently, the J&K government said it will challenge the High Court’s judgment regarding the exhumation of the body of Amir Latief Magrey.

A day later, the High Court stayed the operation of a judgment till the next date of hearing.

Three civilians (Altaf Bhat, Mudasir Gul, Aamir Margary) and a Pakistani militant were killed during an ‘encounter’ on November 14 and 15, 2021, in Srinagar’s Hyderpora.

The police had then claimed that two militants were killed and a civilian died in the crossfire.

However, the families contested the police claim and described Altaf Ahmad Bhat and Dr. Mudasir Gul as civilians. In the face of protests, the bodies of Bhat and Dr. Gul were handed over to their families.

Later, Police formed SIT (Special Investigation Team) which stated that Aamir was a Suspected OGW (Over Ground Worker.)

Amir's body is still buried in the wudder payeen area of North Kashmir's Handwara district.
