Srinagar, Jan 15 — Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Thursday reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and held talks with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha after a fresh spurt in drone activity was detected along the International Border and the Line of Control.
Officials said intelligence inputs suggest that militants are waiting to infiltrate under the cover of dense fog following multiple drone interceptions along the Kashmir border, where India and Pakistan fought a four-day clash last year.
Mohan, who is on a two-day visit to Jammu, met the LG at Lok Bhawan and discussed the security situation, ongoing anti-militancy operations and operational preparedness of security forces.
“They reviewed the current security situation in Kashmir and Jammu, the ongoing anti-terror operations in the Valley and the hilly areas of Jammu, and the preparedness of the joint security grid,” an official said.
A separate high-level security meeting was also chaired by Mohan at the Jammu Convention Centre, focusing on border management, drone threats and security in the hilly belts of Jammu.
“There has been a spurt in drone activity along the IB and LoC, and intelligence reports indicate the presence of terrorists attempting to infiltrate,” another official said.
The meeting brought together senior officers from the Army, police, paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies to review inter-agency coordination and the status of ongoing operations.
Mohan’s visit comes a week after Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed security forces to intensify operations against Kashmir militancy in a “mission mode”.
The meetings were attended by IB Director Tapan Deka, BSF DG Praveen Kumar, CRPF chief G P Singh, J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat, and senior military and civil officials.
Security agencies say nearly three dozen militants, including Pakistani nationals, are believed to be hiding in high-altitude and forested areas of Jammu after infiltrating into the region over the past two years.
