Eight vehicles seized in Pulwama, Anantnag in crackdown on illegal mining

Srinagar, Mar 18 — Police on Wednesday seized eight vehicles in south Kashmir’s Pulwama and Anantnag districts during a crackdown on illegal mining, registering cases and initiating investigations, officials said.

In a statement, police said the action was part of an ongoing drive against illegal extraction and transportation of minerals. “Continuing its drive against illegal mining, Police have seized 08 vehicles in Pulwama and Anantnag, involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals,” the statement said.

In Pulwama, a special operation was carried out in Akhal and Drubgam areas of Rajpora, leading to the seizure of five vehicles, including two JCB machines, one dumper and two tractors. “Cases FIR No. 34/2026 and FIR No. 35/2026 have been registered under relevant sections of law… and further investigation has been taken up,” police said.

In Anantnag, three tractors were seized during a naka checking operation by Police Station Aishmuqam at Badigam. The vehicles were found transporting illegally extracted bajri from Nallah Lidder. “The vehicles were immediately taken into custody… and further investigation has been set into motion,” the statement said.

Police reiterated its commitment to act against illegal mining and urged public cooperation. “Police reiterates its commitment to act firmly against illegal mining activities and urges the public to cooperate in safeguarding natural resources,” it said.
